Building a Public-Facing Toolkit for Responsive and Responsible Activism about Gun Violence
“Building a Public-Facing Toolkit for Responsive and Responsible Activism about Gun Violence” is a collaboration between Dr. Laura Turchi, clinical professor of English and Arizona Center for Medieval and Renaissance Studies affiliate faculty, and Dr. Daniel Roumain, associate professor of music composition in the School of Music, Dance and Theatre. The project responds to the contemporary gun violence epidemic in the U.S., where a person is killed by a gun every 11 minutes. Drs. Turchi and Roumain's critical work develops the metaphoric Fourth Responder, those who make meaning for and with the community, mobilizing the arts and humanities to open vital dialogues that support the healing of the harmed. The project combines student-created written work and artists' moving image, and will result in a web-based, public-facing toolkit, advancing humanities-informed art making.
