Science and Its Monsters

My project explores the diverse monsters of contemporary science. In particular, I focus on the culturing of monsters: strange creatures produced in the laboratory, ob/noxious dogmatism cultivated in legislatures and living rooms, and the scientists themselves co-produced within the odd shape-shifter that is contemporary science, full of mythos and pathos. These putative aberrations (“bad apples”) are intrinsically interesting; but what deserves  sustained scrutiny is the conditions / systems / structures that yield them: the orchards that produce them, the manure that fertilizes the soil from which they grow, the pesticides against which they have grown resistant, and the government subsidies that shape agricultural (horticultural?) policy in the first place.
