The Humanities Institute Micro-Residency Program provides up to $3,000 for ASU faculty in the humanities to bring an outside expert(s) to campus for the purpose of collaborative research.
The applicant must be faculty for whom promotion and/or performance evaluation depends upon research output. Applications are welcomed from any level of tenure and tenure-track faculty or other faculty eligible for a research release, from any Humanities unit from any ASU campus.
Faculty members should:
- Collaborate with the outside researcher on a project that will result in a publication or creative-critical output within the next two years.
- Explain why the research would benefit from in-person engagement.
- Demonstrate the project has developed with the outside research already and now warrants an in-person visit.
Funds can be used for the following items:
- Travel
- Lodging
- Per diem
- Honorarium (because this grant facilitates collaboration rather than a visiting lecture, the honorarium should not exceed $500)
Approved applicants are expected to host a public event and provide a progress report.
- ASU is excited to have visiting experts. If your application is approved, we ask that you hold a public event announced through the Humanities Institute. This can be a coffee conversation, a reading group, a formal visitor’s lecture, a workshop, or other activity that allows the ASU community a window onto the collaborative project. In many cases, the Humanities Institute can provide space for the public event.
- Within one month after the residency, the ASU faculty grant recipient should provide a brief (250 word) report that explains progress made on the project and how the micro-residency contributed to progress. Upon completion of the project, the ASU faculty grant recipient should provide an update of the project for the Humanities Institute records and to assist in our justification of the ASU micro-residency program.
